Samurai Parade
–The Yakage town Festival–

The historical picture scroll “Samurai parade” that unfolds in Yakage Town is held on the second Sunday of Nov. every year (Nov. 12th in 2023).

Around 80 people, including princesses and prince, madame, chief retainer and servants parade along the maine street at the town. You can watch the gorgeous historical picture scroll.

A charming princess, guys throwing spears at high altitudes, guys jumping up and down with a funny movement, a thick beard drawn on his face and carrying a palanquin, and so on. They are both solemn and humorous.

In Yakage town, an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings where you can feel the atmosphere of the Edo period(18th-century), there are also local markets, demonstrations by Bishu Okayama Castle gun corps, Sacred music and dance and Tea ceremonies. Many events will be held, and the former inn town area is crowded the whole day.
