The Ishii family served as the host of the feudal lord’s inn in Yakage post town 150 to 400 years ago, and their residence is now designated as a National Important Cultural Property.

The honjin was a place where feudal lords, noble families, and government officials stayed when traveling between Tokyo, it used be called Edo, and their home domain.

There are also records of elephants travelling with the shogun and staying at this inn.

The current Ishii family house was built from the mid to late Edo period and has been renovated several times and still remains as it was.

The mansion covers an area of about 3,200 square meters including dozens of buildings for sake brewing as family business. It shows the apperance at that time.

The Ishii family also has many ancient documents, including the record Tenshoin Atsuhime( Daughter of the lord of Kagoshima Prefecture) staying at Yakage Honjin on her way to Edo to marry Tokugawa Iesada (shogun).
