Known as the “Plum Blossom Temple,” Kansho-ji in Yakage is a must-visit in spring. The temple grounds are covered in vibrant pink and white blossoms, signaling the turn of the season.

The moment you finish the stone climb, you’ll find yourself in a serene world of sweet fragrance. Among the many beautiful trees, the over 200 years old “Garyubai” (Crouching Dragon Plum) is the absolute highlight.

Its thick, dark trunk—resembling a dragon hugging the ground—tells a story of two centuries. This rough, rugged texture beautifully contrasts with the delicate, multi-layered petals, making them look even more radiant.

With irises and Sal trees also blooming throughout the year, Kansho-ji is the perfect spot to escape the noise and enjoy the peaceful satoyama scenery.
