大名行列

This is one of administrative systems in Japanese feudal period, specially in the edo era around the 19th century. Under that system, regional lords were ordered to serve the central military government every other year. Therefore, they went back and forth between their territory and the capital once every two years . When those regional lords go to the service , they made extravagant processions accompanied by retainers to show their power and dignity. This was called “Daimyo gyoretsu” it mean regional lord’s procession.

A reenactment of this procession takes place on the main street.
Around 80 people take on the roles of multiple characters of the parade with costumes reminiscent to old days and slowly proceed along the old Sanyo road.

Regional lords made gorgeous processions accompanied by retainers to go the Edo (tokyo) once every two years.

On the way, they stayed our Yakage Town that is a village of old style inns.

Regional lord’s procession is a reenact of procession at the time on the same street.

It’s likes the period picture scroll that unfolds make you feel like you’ve slipped back in time.
